At the moment, we are heading for a direction where the monsters/warmachine restriction of 25% is increased to 50%. We've played this way lately and have not found anything unbalanced about it, but only more fun when building our armies.
Does anyone here object to this change, and why if so.
My main issue with this change is from a purely aesthetic point of view. The forces will begin to feel less like armies/warbands and more a random collection of stuff in my opinion. Gameplay wise, I have no problem with it. It will open up for stuff like Stonetusk in an Ogre army.
ReplyDeleteThat's one of the reasons it was there to begin with, to make sure there were "normal" stuff in the games. But then we figured that it's just personal preference so should probably not be in the comp unless it does affect game balance.
DeleteI think this is an important change because IMO, what makes AoS fun is the cool and exciting mix of monsters, troops, warmachines etc. In fact just recently a tournament used PPC (before this adjustment) and found the armies were bland because they couldn't fit in the big cool things.
ReplyDeleteThat's some good input, thanks!
DeleteIf there's anything else you learned from the tournament that should change with the PPC, please let me know so the project can develop. Negative input is especially welcome :)

Some valuable thoughts and concerns there - cheers for sharing!
DeleteOh I see it's not quite official yet in the doc.
ReplyDeleteNot yet, no. In a few days I will comment in the Comp section, letting everyone know this change will happen next update and encourage people to begin playing this way even now. But we have decided not to update the documents as often as we did before, so the official update of the doc is still some time away.
DeleteDo it. Oh yes please dooooo it
ReplyDeleteSure looks like we will!
DeleteSeems like a good change. I'm almost in favour of removing the percentages completely. If we do the balance well enough, the army composition could be for the tourney organizers to decide.
ReplyDeletedid propose removing the monster cap entirely once, but it got voted down because it would open up to builds like double Stonehorn in a 1000p game and other similar stuff. I think the next step (that we will begin playtesting if this goes through) will be removing the Hero cap. Let's see how that one goes after this one :)
DeleteThis looks good so far. No one has really objected to the change yet, either here or on Dakka or those that have contacted me by e-mail. I will leave this post up a few more days before I update the blog so more people will have a chance to speak their mind about it.
