  1. Hi guys, excellent work!
One question though, Nagash has the bonus to cast multiple spells in his hero phase (8 spells if he has suffered no wounds) but with the limitation of using each spell once per phase he is allowed to cast only 4, the two summoning, mystic shield and the damage one (don't remember how it's called atm). Should you maybe allow Nagash to use the summonning spells more than once per phase??

    ReplyDelete

    1. + his two spells from his warscroll (hand of dust, soul stealer) for a total of 6 spells. That still leaves him 2 spells less than the maximum number of spells he is able to cast

      Delete
    2. Nagash also knows all spells your other wizards know. So you could also run a Necromancer and Vampire with him to make full use of his potential.

      Delete
    3. Does nagash Summon twice the number of models you place?

      Delete
    4. Yes, twice the actual number of models. So a unit of 100pts worth of Skellies would would double up their number but not neccessarily their points value (if you include full command in the unit you will get less modela for example).
This also means that not even Nagash can summon the most expensive monsters (it would be too good).
This might all change in the new update if we go for the same summoning rules as they have in the General's Handbook though.
      Cheers!

  2. Hello mate. I have another question. I was browsing the Warrios of Chaos PDF with the point costs and it seems that the Paragraph regarding the "Unending Legion" command ability of the Chaos Lord is missing from the this latest version. Was the the intention or was it forgotten? Because if it was the intention one could summon a unit of 100 Warriors of Chaos on the battlefield without any restriction and it would make the Warriors of Chaos close to unbeatable... :(

    1. I've just seen a comment above were you're saying that the Chaos Lord has a new warscroll and you kept the new one. Went and downloaded his new warscroll and he has not the same Command Ability. So I guess I found the answer to my own question. Sorry for the trouble, just give me a confirmation and I'll be on my way... :)

    2. Exactly as you found out yourself - the old chaos lord is no more, so you need to use the new warscroll which has a PPC point cost :) It was a good move by GW to remove Unending Legion in my opinion.
Keep the questions coming mate! :)

  3. Is there a limit to the amount that you can summon per turn and per game. It seems that armies that have very limited or no wizards, are extremely hurt by this addition. It seems next to impossible to stop a Nagash that has +3 to his casts and be able to unbind them to prevent the summoning. Furthermore, does Nagash get to cast the summoning spell for the 7/8/9/and 10 values or because it is still the same spell, WILL OF NAGASH, will they have to choose 1 and cast other spells from that point on out?

    Thanks in advance!

    1. Hi!
Each summoning spell is ONE spell, so any caster able to cast many spells can still only cast the summoning spell once/turn. So Nagash can cast Will of Nagash once each turn. Nagash is a true beast when it comes to summoning, but that is also why he costs your entire HERO allowance at 2000pts games.
Hope this answers your question :)
      Cheers!

    2. When nagash casts Will of nagash, can he Then set a unit up for dobbel cost...
      Like 100=200 and 200=400...

  4. Great work with the comp so far, seems like a good replacement for my AoS group. We used SDK before.

Any timeframe, when you will update units according to Grand Alliance: Order?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Thanks! Yeah it was bad that SDK went down, but I think PPC will be a good replacement for any who enjoy the "old school" points systems :)
The GA: Order will be updated this weekend!

  5. Hey there and thanks for all the effort here, PPC has made for some great and balanced games.

Just wanted to ask a quick question on Varghulfs for VC's. In the Death book and the GW site these guys are referred to as single models but in the PPC system it appears that to permit squads of varghulfs? Is this correct? Was also very surprised to see the hero keyword on them which has added to our debate on this.

    Any thoughts appreciated, cheers Ben

    1. Thank you for your nice comment, Ben!
It is true that they are single models and heroes now - we have missed the single model limit in the army list update. Will fix that for the next update! Thanks for noticing and letting us know!

  6. Do wood elves need to spend the 100 points to be able to summon their particular items, dryads, trees, and such, or is it included in their point calculations already?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi!
The 100 pts is only for the Hounds, because that is a spell that all wanderer wizards can know. The Dryads from the Branchwraith and the trees (from Durthu) is spells/abilities tied to a single model so the cost for them is included in those models instead :)

  7. A few questions: Why is fateweaver worth more than his un-named counter part the lord of change, do the Chaos Familiars stack with Arcane land terrain piece and do both of those stack with the Balewind Vortex. It seems like some crazy spell slinging can go off with +1 from the lord of change, +1 from the land, +1 from the Chaos Familiars, +1 from the Vortex, and if using Pink Horrors another +1 from their locus ability. Overall, that is +5 or +4 for the pinks. Considering this, do all of these models/terrain interact in this way or am I overlooking something?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi!
Yes, they all stack, so you are not overlooking anything. :)
...but it would cost alot of points with all those models/terrain pieces - we're talking around 700 pts for it. Could be worth it in some cases, but still a pretty huge investment, especially since you get an unmoveable wizard on top of the Balewind - easily targeted by ranged attacks. If you try it, let us know how it went!
About Fateweaver vs Lord of Change: Well, Fateweaver have better damage output, but quite frankly it's his extraordinary ability of knowing EVERY spell from your army within 18". A free Grand Invocation, anyone? :)

  8. Weird questions but hopefully just missing something. This point system has the arachon at 1000pts and the overlords of chaos (on the dakadaka page) as some point value, 75 I believe. However doesn't the formation require you to have the gaunt summoner and the arachon on the field. Considering this is 1260 points of heroes, the only point that this is playable would be a very large point pool size. The main point of this is to basically if the only way to play this formation would be to have a large pool size or use the arachon on the horse instead

Second is the manner of how Skarbrand strikes at his foe. The ability total carnage inflicts 8 wounds or slays the model if it has 8 or few wounds remaining. Does the Arachon get to save these or would he not. Since they are "technically" not mortal wounds it seems to me that it would just kill him straight on. Furthermore, would this work with nurgle units and their secondary save? The two abilities seem to conflict each other.

Finally, I was wondering about the Varengauard. As I have played games in this point system, I feel like that Varenguard are fairly priced without the arachon on the field. The moment that he becomes a factor, 100pts, while very high, still is still very very good for them. default having a 3+ save, generally turns into 2+ with the gaunt summoner/arachon wizardly capabilities. Furthermore, they pop out 18 attacks with a 2+/3+/-1/1 damage profile (assuming an alive archon) for 1000pts, nothing I did could deal with them. Preventing everything coming at them and living through almost every assault. 3 Varenguard, with the scary thought of 6 as what I was facing, felt very unbalanced. Given this, I don't have any suggestions sadly, considering they do feel more balanced without the archon. I realize that this last paragraph has turned more into a rant than anything but I was just curious about the process for pointing them up.

    Thanks in advance!
    Zigan

  9. The battalion in question does require a very high point battle to play. Some battalions are clearly made for bigger battles in mind than others, though higher requirements will reduce the cost of a battalion.

Skarbrand's ability states "the target loses 8 wounds" meaning this skips the allocation stage where models "suffer" wounds, thus even special rules that allow extra 'saves' like those on nurgle daemons will not trigger; nothing stops Skarbrand!

    ReplyDelete
  10. So for the overlords of Chaos: Battalion. Can i use the Archaon on horse rather than on Droghar?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yes; as per GW's own FAQ a model need only have the relevant keyword to fit in a battalion slot. Since horse-Archaeon has the "Archaeon" keyword he can be used in the Overlords of Chaos battalion.

  12. Can "Summon Balewind Vortex" be unbound from anywhere on the table? Was unsure if it was only the 100pt spells that had that restriction or all of them

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes it can be unbound from anywhere since it is a summoning spell. You may try again with another wizard, or with the same wizard next turn. Each Vortex is only used up if it gets cast successfully (and is not unbound).

  13. Hello! one quick question. in the old description before the update and the change of warscroll names in orcs and goblins all units where known as Greenskins. i have a monster called Rogue Idol of Gork (or Possibly Mork) from the monstrus archanum that had an ability for alla Greenskins wizards and Greenskin models in general.. does that mean that it applies that ability to all of the warscrolls from the orcs and goblins armie or is there an update for this rule?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi!
The ability is affecting all units that has the keyword GREENSKINZ, and those that also has the WIZARD keyword gains the re-roll casting as well. Ironjawz on the other hand, dont have those keywords and dont get the bonuses even though they are Orruks too.
Always look for the keywords, not the name of the unit for these types of abilities.
      Cheers!

  14. Hey Attilla! It looks like some battalions (Blood Host of Khorne, Changehost of Tzeentch, Godswrath Warband) didn't get their extra notes removed, are these intentional or just errors?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Unintentional, must have missed removing the notes while going through your list of Battalion changes on Dakkadakka. Fixing it now, but will wait awhile before updating the lists on the blog for more changes to come at the same time.

  16. Hi Guys, excellent work! One question though. Since the rules say, that a roll of 1 always fails, how to resolve following situation - I have a model, which attacks on 3+/2+ and debuffed a unit, what causes all attacks on it having a modifier of +1 for all wound rolls. Which such setup, my model will attach on +3/+1. Should I:
    - roll for wound rolls, which in result always succed
    - desist wound rolls since all are succeded
    - roll for wound rolls and in case of rolls of 1 treat them as failed

    Thank you for your response.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Roll wounds and all 1's will fail, the rule applies to unmodified roles.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Huh, that makes sense. In fact that's stated in the handbook :(

Another thing - I assume I understand reinforcements points pretty well. However, nowhere is stated whether it is allowed to use killed models.

Let's say I have a unit of Plaguebearers. Some of them were killed in one of the phases. I rolled a 1 during a battleshock phase and now I can roll D6 to summon models. What I understand is I don't have to pay any reinforcements points in such situation since "Spells or abilities that allow you to add models to existing units don’t cost you any reinforcement points".

Could I use killed models in situation when I want to summon a unit, while still paying for them with my reinforcements points?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Bringing models into an existing unit does not cost any reinforcement points, but the unit cannot go above its starting size. New units summoned cost reinforcement points. The exact models used is irrelevant to both of these; if your unit of green 'bearers lost some guys then got them back you could put down unpainted bearers that you just bought yesterday, while using the 'dead' models in a new summoned unit. Essentially, once a model dies it is no longer part of the game in any way, returning dead models to a unit really means 'add models of the appropriate type to the unit'.

  20. The recent GW FAQ put a limit on Moonclan Netters; 3 per 20. The PPC document currently sits a 1 per 5, should it be changed to reflect the new value?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hmm it should, just to keep it as close as possible to official. It's a shame though, since it means units of 10 would not have any netters at all then. I guess it could be made as a "1 in 10, or 3 in 20" type restriction...will think some more before the update.

      Delete
  21. It looks like the last five battalions in the Skaven document weren't updated, they should be: Eshin Clawpack 125, Moulder Clawpack 50, Skreet Verminkin's Horde free, Verminus Clawpack 200, and Castle Rot Wreckers free.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hi guys, using General's Handbook we're able to roll for artifacts for heroes and special abilities. Are you planning to take this into account in PPC to make it cost effective?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Unlike the GHB, PPC does not require an army to come from a single grand alliance (order, chaos, destruction, death). However, a player that mixes units from more than one grand alliance does not benefit from any allegiance abilities. In other words, the command trait and artifact are a free reward for restricting oneself to a single grand alliance. Additional artifacts granted from having battalions are incorporated into the battalion costs.

  25. There seems to be a bit of ambiguity with how GW has published the Gaunt Summoner warscrolls, but it looks like we have two similar but separate ones: Gaunt Summoner on Disc (which notably does NOT have the 'Arcanite' keyword) and the Gaunt Summoner on Foot with/without familiars. Each of them has near-identical profiles but different spells and an important keyword difference, which I feel justifies them being listed separately. That all said, I feel the Gaunt Summoner in the Undivided list should be renamed as "Gaunt Summoner on Disc" while the other is left as-is.

    ReplyDelete
  26. There are some units (Tzaangor Enlightened, Flamers, basic Ogors) that have unusual point costs per model added (like 43), it seems needlessly specific when a more rounded number (like 45) would be easier to total up in lists. What are your thoughts on this? At the very least I think Ogors can be dropped to 35 points/model without upsetting the balance :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hm, the issue with this is where the points are low enough that it matters? A model for 7 pts would be too cheap at 5 pts, while it doesn't really matter at all at 62 pts or 60 pts. I'll do it for everything above 30 pts to begin with.

      Delete
  27. The full list includes those three plus Demigryph Knights, Ripperdactyls, Kroxigor, Jungle Swarms, Bullgors, Skin Wolves, Chaos Trolls, Chaos Ogres, Plague Ogres, Bile Trolls, Crypt Horrors, Spirit Hosts, Necropolis Knights (sidenote: the shield upgrade should be at least 5 ppm for the benefit it offers), all three Troggoth varieties, Yhetees, and Gore-Gruntas

    ReplyDelete
  28. While I'm on the topic of minor details...
-The Verminus Clawpack should be listed as 200 points
-basic Savage Orruks get size benefits at 20 and 30 but do not have scaling costs
-Rat Swarms no longer need to have an increased cost for the first one due to reinforcement rules

    ReplyDelete
  29. Some minor feedback:

The Plague Priest censer option should probably be +15 instead of +5 (putting him at an even 100), the extra attack isn't bad but more importantly the once-per-game ability he gets is a good amount better than the casting penalty of the other variant.

Epidemius may need a bump. I'm thinking 120-150 range. What I've realized is that the addition of artifacts & command traits draws attention to other heroes and as indirectly improved Epi's lifespan on the tabletop. Also a maxed out tally is just really good. But this may need some confirmation with other players.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thanks!

The cost increase of both of them will be in the next update. We'll start with 140p for Epidemius unless we hear something more from others.

  30. Love your system! After playing in a recent campaign at my local GW I definitely noticed a difference in some point values given in the Generals Handbook, so I'm really excited to use this system for our next campaign.

I noticed you said there was a BattleScribe file, but I don't see it anywhere and can't find it on the actual app; is that something that still exists or was removed?

We believe GW got alot, but not everything, right with the GHB. PPC has been around since the AoS was first released, and have alot of playtesting going into it.
There used to be a BattleScribe file, but it didn't seem many people bothered with it, so I decided to cut the work I put into updating it.

    1. Hi,

Yes this is correct - many units that have special abilities that triggers for the entire unit instead of for each model often have a higher initial cost. In this case its the Kiss of Fire special rule that does it.

      Delete
    2. Hi,

I known, I found bull centaur better than Kdaii, and it's for that I've a doubt about their cost.

      - The kiss of fire is an advantage with defaut, you slain your own unit.

      - They're less resistant and tacticaly more complex to play, they're do to fight fragile unit, they're rend "-" and are very weaks versus unit with rend -1 or better.

      Thanks

      Delete
    3. Hm, I guess they can be dangerous for nearby friendly units too, yeah.
Maybe the cost for Fireborn initial unit should be lowered. I think somewhere around 120p for the first 3 might be a better value. What do you think?

      Delete
  35. Hi

Well 35 each seem the best for me, and not less for upgrade, 3 Kdaai is not resistant then one upgrade will regulary taken because it renforce it.

To have an reel efficiency and not just cause fear, 4 kdaai at 140pts seem me good price !

So 3 centaurs 135pts Would seem to me equivalent at 4K'daai 140pts.

I'm surely not planned all situations, so what do you think of that ?

And other people have expérience to add ?

  36. Hi

I find the cost of Hero a little too expensive, in comparison with models of the same price. And I find that the game forces to take a minimum of Hero.

I understand that the goal of the game is not to have only Heroes. The second hero would have to be an option and not an impossibility in comparison with a troop choice.

I think a drop of 10% or 15% will be intesresting in gameplay. (15% seems to me good)

Thanks for interest and thank for your work !

Happy to have your opinion ...

    1. Are you using the allegiance content from the General's Handbook? Part of the value in heroes is their ability to take artifacts and how they are key to the allegiance abilities of the grand alliances. Heroes also have various advantages as single models; they can more easily gain cover, less enemy models can attack them in melee, etc. That said, heroes are often not very powerful on their own and work best when used with more basic 'troop' options. A unit of troops and a hero will be stronger than just two heroes or two troops would be.

      Delete
    2. Yes I use the general's handbook.

When you play 1.000 pts do you frequently play 2 (or more) héros ? Whith standard armies, not with low cost armies like skaven ...

Personally, 2 héros is too expensive. And I thinks it's could be interested to play 2 héros without being disadvantaged.

I ask to me if it's my fault or if he game is create like that ...

I hope you understand the depth of my interrogation !

      Delete
    3. I generally spend about one third of my points on heroes regardless of points level. At 1000 points this usually means two or three heroes. Heroes lack the models and wounds of regular troop blocks, but also focus the strength of a small unit into just one model. Heroes usually should not be out on their own, but behind/between/next to troop units so that the hero cannot be surrounded & ganged up on by enemy troops. Also remember that heroes do not have to be base-to-base with the enemy; the default 1" range of melee weapons means they can slide into gaps between troop models or even swing from behind a rank of infantry.

      Delete
    4. I'm not convinced but I'll test more and I'll be back tell to you, but please take in acount what's I say in playtesting too if you want if you can !

    5. What armies are you using? Maybe I can provide some more specific advice.

    6. Why not !
      I play Chaos Dwarf.
My oppponents playing Skaven, and an other stormcast.
I already think some compositions with more Héros, I'll see when I play them.

      Delete
    7. Ah, Chaos Dwarfs. They tend to spend less on heroes because you need to pay for war machines and still have enough points left over for big blocks of infantry. I consider at least one of each necessary for a well-rounded army; one Castellan who will act as the general (keep him in cover behind your infantry so he can stay alive), one Standard to buff your troops, and one Daemonsmith for magical support. If your opponents are mainly stormcast and skaven I would recommend two daemonsmiths so you can cast mystic shield and ash storm in the same turn. Mystic shield is very important for Chaos Dwarfs because it grants +1 to save rolls, allowing units with spiteshields to deal mortal wounds to the enemy on a roll of 5+ (or even 4+ if they are also in cover!), though rend will reduce this it is still very powerful. Another good option for an extra hero is a Castellan who is not your general equipped with a great weapon; have him stand next to an infantry unit or better yet between two infantry units so that when they get charged he is within 3" to pile-in and attack with his nasty 3-damage weapon.

Read it at the Warhammer Community preview...

      Delete
    3. Yeah apparently they are giving a discount for some units at max size. But zombies and skeletons are already strongest at max size...

We were having a discussion on Dakka about it that led me to actually field-test a unit of 40 skeletons versus two units of 20. Through multiple rounds of testing the 40-man came out on top by a large margin, it wasn't even close. Suffice it to say I find PPC far better represents tabletop value.

      Delete
    4. Actually come to think of it I would suggest lowering the starting cost of skeletons to 5pts/model, keeping them at 8/per at 20-30 and 10/per at 30-40. Below the 20-model threshold they are simply really bad with just one attack each but at 20 their offense literally doubles.

  41. So we know there are going to be some warscroll changes come GHB2, and a revised Grundstock Thunderers one has been leaked by reviewers. It has some significant changes to equipment that will warrant re-costing. Perhaps most notably the unit now has rifle default equipment with the other weapons being 1-per-5 but counted separately. So 1 per 5 can have a fumigator, and 1 per 5 can have a decksweeper, etc. New rules for most of the weapons too.

    1. Well now there's a bunch to work on...

    2. Yeah, I wish I had saved the old compendiums so I could check exactly what changes have been made, and recalc where needed. But I'll dig into all the new ones and update their points.

If you can find out the new warscrolls for Thunderers and the new additions of Blight Wars, please let me know. My group is focussing on 40K now which is why we have been silent for some time, but will still maintain the PPC with new additions/changes until we get back into AoS again!

    3. The new Thunderer Warscroll is in GHB2; it's the 'warscroll update' mentioned in the table of contents. As for the old warscrolls, maybe ask around to see if people have them downloaded on the app and haven't updated them, or have printouts.

I know from memory that the Skaven Brood Horror just had it's attacks changed, and the Mourngul had it's hit penalty nerfed to be only -1 regardless of bravery and it's mortal wound 'save' reduced to 5+.

Also minor note, I noticed that Plague Ogors and Troggoths from Tamurkhan don't have their point costs rounded off to a simple tens value.

    4. Thanks Ninth!
I've gotten my hands on the GHB 2017 so I should be able to see the scrolls that've changed now. Seems like alot of stuff!

  44. Question; October for the next PPC update? I want to go through all the battalions again if I can so wondering what the deadline is.

  45. Should we keep the rules for engineers only buffing one war machine at a time? With the artillery limits introduced in the GHB it seems redundant.

    1. Yeah we can remove that one now as well, the less changes the better :)

  46. Ugg... the battalions... so many...

Any feedback on any battalions you can share?

    1. Yeah, there are tons of them :/
No feedback, which might lead us to believe they are proper costed :)

    2. What sort of feedback do you get these days? I don't imagine PPC is nearly as popular as it once was >.>

    3. Not nearly as popular as it was before General's Handbook, for natural reasons :)
But still being used, as I get a few feedback notes every now and then. I also think there are less stuff to give feedback on, as alot of units have a decent points value by now.

    1. Hey mate!
I'm alive, (but hobbywise just barely). My boss is away so my workload the past weeks has left me precious little time for anything else. It's a good thing I get paid at least, so I can use the cash to buy more miniatures when this is over. :)
Hope everything is good with you?

Btw, I am working on Maggotkin, but it's a very slow work right now :/
      Cheers!

  50. Maggotkin is looking pretty good! As a heavy Nurgle player I've got a few comments;
-The Pusgoyles have a typo saying 'additional Putrid Blightkings can be added to the unit'
-I feel like Morbidex isn't quite worth 300 points because his ability can no longer create new Nurgling units and now only adds one base instead of d3.
-Due to his named character status preventing artifact/command trait use I'm not sure Orgotts is worth a full 250.
-Blightkings & Pusgoyles should have a 'unit tax' because of their Virulent Discharge. I actually think the points are on-point but adding additional models should be a bit less. 40 per additional Blightking and 100 per additional Pusgoyle would be my suggestion.
-I think Festus is worth more than 110, his ability got buffed with only needing a 2+ to hit enemies and he is just a better version of the Rotbringer Sorcerer overall.
-Like Glottkin the Harbinger should be costed assuming general status because of the awesome command ability, I think GW's 160 is pretty appropriate.
-Minor change, I think the exalted GUO should be rounded to an even 500 for convenience and to match the GW value where we can.
-I think the Bilepiper is worth a bit more because of the buff to very-powerful GUOs, while the Scrivener is worth a bit less because he's buffing charges on a unit that doesn't charge and offense on a unit not used for offense.
-I think both Rotigus and the GUO are too high, my impression is in the low 400s range. However, the GUO should have a additional cost for the bell due to it's extreme syngery value, in the realm of +35-50.

Despite all those nitpicks I want to reiterate that it looks really good overall and I remain impressed with your ability to assess unit value.

    1. One more thing; the Plague Drone banner got nerfed (it only brings back one drone model now) so I'd say it's worth 15 now, and the music on the unit seems to be 10 points when it should be 5 (it's the same as the plaguebearer one), and there's a typo on the unit champion calling it a 'Plaguebearer' instead of 'Plaguebringer'

    2. I will definately bow down to your insights and experience - will fix these and add the battalions a.s.a.p :)

  51. So is PPC fading out? I would be sad to see it go but also completely understand if that's the case.
